This Fall Discover a New Favorite Long Beach Coffee House
The air is starting to cool down and the days are getting shorter which seems like a great reason to drink more coffee. We are very fortunate to have so many wonderful locally owned coffee shops in Long Beach. Here is a list of some of our favorites for you to try. Each one has its own unique story and personality, and some even have some delicious seasonal specialties.
Black Ring Coffee
5373 Long Beach Blvd Long Beach, CA 90805
This group of self-proclaimed “coffee nerds” is always serving small batch and seasonal coffee. Right now the featured roast is Nicaragua la Huella, but check back often because they change it out regularly. In the case of a mid-October heat wave that has been known to happen in Long Beach, their nitro cold-brew will definitely hit the spot.
Cafe Cabinet
250 W Ocean Blvd Long Beach, CA 90802
Cafe Cabinet has partnered with local roasters to bring its customers nothing but the best of the best. They have the traditional espresso and Americanos, but for fall we think that everyone should go try the Honey Oat Latte. Described as “Honey Nut Oats in a cup,” it just seems like the perfect flavor combo to warm you up on a cool morning.
Cuppa Cuppa
455 E Ocean Blvd Long Beach, CA 90802
If you are looking for that authentic barista experience with the pretty patterns on top of your latte and cappuccino, Cuppa Cuppa is the place for you. All of their baristas are highly trained and know their stuff. Their top-of-the-line coffee starts with the highest quality bean. While it’s not listed on the menu, we did spot a pumpkin spice coffee drink of some kind on their Instagram story so make sure to ask about it when you stop in for a cup.
437 W Willow St Long Beach, CA 90806
Fox Coffee House is known not only for its coffee selection but also for its vegetarian and vegan food menu. This coffee shop has a very warm and inviting feel. The staff will not make you feel guilty for setting up camp on a couch or table for hours - even if you only order one thing. If you like sweet drinks, the honey bear latte is a great choice. The pastry menu changes regularly. They recently had a vegan orange, ginger, cranberry bread that looked like a perfect fall flavor combination.
Portfolio Coffeehouse
2300 E 4th St Long Beach, CA 90814
You can always count on Portfolio to come through with delicious coffee and tea drinks, plus free Wifi, and gelato. This shop is a Retro Row Favorite and one of the most famous coffee shops in all of Long Beach. You can’t go wrong with any item on their regular menu, and we are delighted to see that they are blending up a Candy Corn Vanilla Latte just in time for Halloween.
Recreational Coffee
237 Long Beach Blvd, Long Beach, CA 90802
There’s enough personality within this little coffee shop to reach from Naples to the Vincent Thomas Bridge. (Follow their Instagram - it’s very entertaining.) Recreational is committed to ethical practices in everything they serve. Their coffee is beyond fair trade (their sourcing partners often pay farmers anywhere between 2-3x current “Fair Trade” prices), and everything is tested for quality control. Their selection of vegan donuts is definitely a bonus.
Viento y Agua Coffeehouse & Gallery
4007 E 4th St Long Beach, CA 90814
If you’re looking for authentic Mexican coffee drinks like Cafe con Leche, this is your spot. Another fan favorite is the Mexican mocha. Beyond getting a great cup of coffee, Viento y Agua is known for their lively dance and music performances, and art gallery. The welcoming ambiance along with the always-friendly staff just might make this your new favorite local coffee shop. Although with such great selections in all of Long Beach, it’s hard to pick just one.
